The Doom

“When Ross MacLeod pulled the trigger and brought down the pheasant, he had no way of knowing he’d killed himself. And billions of others.”

Hello Everyone,

That first line in Nora Roberts Year One: Chronicles of the One started me on the pissed state I have been in since last week when I finished reading this book. Which is why it has taken me this long to write this review. Why, you may ask? Because the book was so good, it pissed me off that it ended in a cliff hanger ( which I knew it would since it is book 1 in the series, but still…) and I have to wait until the end of this year to read the next installment. The fact that I am impatiently waiting to read it should tell you how I feel about this book.

Year One

The first sentence in Year One,  had me expecting all kinds of mayhem. I expected the end of the world, a handful of survivors, lawlessness and the restart of civilization. Continue reading

Let’s be real for a moment…

“I don’t matter here, either. If I dropped out of life just like I dropped out of school, everyone’s lives would go on. With or without Merit.”

Hello Everyone,

First, I must caution, this review may contain spoilers; I’ll try not to give too much away.

This book touches on a very sensitive subject. It is something that is prevalent around the world. Although this hasn’t affected me close to home, it hit me on a personal level because it happened to someone I care about and admire.

Without Merit

I have never read anything from Colleen Hoover. I found this book accidentally while looking for another book, that I never managed to find (especially because I don’t remember the author or title). Without Merit was not the read I was expecting. I was expecting the usual teenage angst love story and ended up with so much more. Continue reading

Overcoming the past

“The older I get, the more I realize that everyone is weird in one way or another.” Virginia

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year! This is my first read of 2018. A much anticipated read. In the July 26th review, (Re-Inventing One’s Self, if you haven’t read it, please do so) I spoke of waiting for the new year to read this book. Seeing as it’s a Jayne Ann Krentz book, I was more anxious and excited than a kid at Christmas. I counted down days and cleared my schedule to make sure there would be no interruptions. Phone was turned off, bedroom door locked, knocks ignored…you get the picture. Anyone violating my sanctity would absolutely not be forgiven.  Well it turned out to be well worth the self-imposed isolation (which was extended when I picked up another book and got caught up, but that’s another blog-check it out). I wonder if that makes me weird?

Promise not to tell

Jayne Ann Krentz’s  Promise Not to Tell is about a promise to children amidst a tragic event, a promise not kept. This is the second in a can-be-read-alone trio of interconnected novels about foster brothers. The first book, When All The Girls Have Gone is the book I did my very first review on this site on (check it out…that seems to be my go-to phrase ‘check it out’…sigh). That blog is called T.G.I Frappe Friday. Continue reading

Who needs sleep? I don’t!

“Did you think you were going to die?” Kerra

Hello Everyone,

The adventure starts. So, okay, I promised myself that I would pace myself reading this particular book, since I had just finished another book earlier (review for that coming next). I hate myself for breaking my promise, but it is what it is. I mean, I couldn’t help it. This book is hot, hot, hot. I’m not talking about erotic hot, but edge of your seat action from the first page hot; sexy, stubborn, alpha male hot (of course the sex was indeed hot too). I bring you Sandra Brown’s Seeing Red.

First off, the cover art catches your attention right off the bat. Then the first sentence grabs you as you start reading. Now, I’m going to be real here; Continue reading

Happy Holidays!

“I know I’m a kid and people don’t listen to kids, but…I think it’s going to matter. I know this isn’t over…Vickie, I’m afraid that it’s not over for you” Noah

Hello Everyone,

It is a few days after Christmas and I hope you are enjoying the holiday season. My home is overrun with toys and I am still exhausted, but that didn’t stop me from reading. At the start of the holidays ’til now, I managed to read three books in Heather Grahams Krewe of Hunters series. Although each book in the series can be read separately, the three I read are all interconnected.

Dying Breath

In Dying Breath, the first of the three, we meet Victoria (Vickie) Preston, a teenager who is targeted and survives an attack by a serial killer while babysitting for a neighbor. It was also the first time she saw a ghost. Continue reading

Family…Redemption!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying the start of the holiday season which most consider “the most wonderful time of the year”. It’s a time of family and togetherness. The start of the biggest holiday of the year. With Christmas coming, I think of the religious and commercial connotations. The chaos of shopping and decorating. Spending the morning with the family before the Christmas church service. All of this makes me think of family. Family is an unbreakable bond. Whatever the current year has brought you, your family is always there to see you through it and forgive you for any slights.

That’s what these books are to me. The epitome of family and forgiveness; redemption. Let’s review the relationship between two brothers. Identical twins separated by misunderstandings and traumatic experiences. To be honest the books are pretty f**king dark!

By now everyone should already know how I feel about novels by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I believe most of my reviews have been about her books. Continue reading

Chronicles of Nick Series

“I am a socially awkward mandork” Nick Gautier.

Hello Everyone, I am back…finally. Life happened and for some reason, I lost confidence in writing. I kept thinking that the way I review could be better compared to some of the other reviews I’ve read. The thing I realized is I have my own voice. Although I may need to work on some things, my writing style perfectly embodies my voice. I write the way I speak; I write this blog to talk about the books I so love to read. I hope my intentions are positively received by all who reads this. I also hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Being unsure of yourself is a part of life that people of all ages experience at some point in their lives. Like me and like Nick Gautier. Which brings me to the subject of this review. Of course this is a Sherrilyn Kenyon book. If you have been reading my blogs, you know that Ms. Kenyon is hands down my favorite author. I have been re-reading the first Dark-Hunter books to keep myself current on the details so I don’t get lost reading the newer books. There will be big reveals in the next few books/series, (more specifically in Urian’s upcoming book); and the things revealed in Dragonsworn, which I will speak of in another blog, urged me to go back. Boy am I glad I did. Because the previous books took me to the Chronicles of Nick series in the Young Adult genre.  I don’t intend to review all of the books separately, this review covers them all, from the first book Infinity, to the seventh book Invision.

Infinity-CON  Invision-CON

In the spirit of honesty, I didn’t initially like Nick Gautier. Yes, he was funny, in a sarcastic way, but when he and Ash had a misunderstanding, [spoiler alert] Continue reading

Re-inventing one’s self

“Run for your life. Get as far away as possible and disappear. Your only hope is to become someone else. You must not trust anyone-not the police, not the FBI. Above all, never trust a lover.”

Hello Everyone,

It’s been awhile since I did a review. Life got busy. To top things off, it took me four days to read this book.  I became very popular while trying to read. My phone kept ringing, my granddaughter wanted my attention, etc. But I finally found quiet time to read in the wee hours of the morning; that is when I wasn’t completely exhausted. That book is The Girl Who Knew Too Much by Amanda Quick.

the girl who knew too much

As I have said ad nauseum, I am a huge Jayne Ann Krentz fan. Amanda Quick is the pseudonym for her historical romances. But this book doesn’t take place in the standard Regency England period which marks an Amanda Quick book; Continue reading

Rewind

“A restless, lonely spirit whose destiny is to save the very mortals who despise and fear him. He will never know rest or peace until he can find the one woman who will not betray him. The one pure heart who can see past his dark side and bring him back into the light.”

Hello Everyone,

Happy Independence Day! After reading and reviewing Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon (see Hot Day! Hot Read!), I decided to go back and read the first book in the Dark-Hunter series (although Fantasy Lover is technically the first book, it is not a Dark-Hunter book). So I read Night Pleasures again. I first read it in 2007.

Night Pleasures

Night Pleasures tells the story of Kyrian of Thrace, aka, Hunter the Dark-Hunter.  After being betrayed by the woman he loved, his soul cried out for vengeance. Hunter is an immortal badass. His toughness is underscored by his vulnerability, which is a result of his past betrayal and could possibly be the death of him. Continue reading

Faith Restored in Historical Romance

“He wished that just one person would cry for him, that just one person might miss him.”

Hello Everyone,

I confess to being a self-professed crybaby; I cried while reading this book. I was so emotional that I couldn’t write for Frappe Friday without bawling. I have my emotions under control today, so here I go.

walkingonair

Walking on Air by Catherine Anderson is an excellent historical romance. It reaffirmed my faith in God and my fellow man with the religious overtones to the book. If you don’t believe in angels and second chances, you will after reading Walking On Air. That is a prevalent theme in Catherine’s books: second chances.  I love, no, adore this book.
